Respecting and maintaining the privacy of individuals and the confidentiality of what is shared in our circle is of utmost importance. This training program for aspiring allies will provide insight into the beautiful range of identities that make up the LGBTQ+ community. Participants will learn the basics of LGBTQ+ identity, vocabulary, history, and the Movement for LGBTQ+ Liberation today. Participants will hear stories of LGBTQ+ individuals to better understand the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people in our region. If you aspire to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and want to learn more about what the movement has to offer, this training is the perfect for you! Lunch will be provided. Trauma Healing Basics 1: Foundations

Mondays, February 3–March 10

In this six-week counseling group, participants can expect to engage one another on topics of safety in body, mind, relationships and environment. Trauma Healing Basics 1 offers foundational skills related to coping with upsetting circumstances and overwhelming emotions. Participants will develop a larger emotional vocabulary and learn how to express beliefs and needs more effectively. This is a closed group where participants can share personal experiences and receive support in a non-judgmental, and confidential setting. Women and members of the gender-expansive community who reside in Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Nelson, and Louisa are invited to join. Facilitated by Kara Castle, LCSW, and Andrea Fasciano, M.Ed. candidate and counseling intern.

Craniosacral Gentle Touch

Wednesdays, 30-minute sessions from 1-3pm, ongoing

The gentle touch of craniosacral therapy supports the body in re-patterning the nervous system beyond unresolved stress and trauma and re-discovering the body’s natural state of wellness. This therapy uses light touch on the body while clients recline on a massage table, fully clothed. Participants often experience a greater sense of self-connection, clarity, renewal, and peace following a craniosacral session. Women and members of the gender-expansive community are invited to participate. Led by Amina Stevens of Common Ground Healing Arts.

Chihamba West African Dance

Join us for a West African dance class for women and children who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), in partnership with Charlottesville dance troupe Chihamba. In this fun and energetic hour, we will enjoy movement and rhythm, build community, and connect with our African ancestry as we explore the meanings and stories behind each dance. Led by Lillie Williams.

QTPOC Safe Space

Biweekly on Fridays, October 4 & 18, November 1 & 15

Join us in creating a vibrant collective space where BIPOC LGBTQ individuals can connect, create, and thrive together. Each week will bring an opportunity to socialize, and learn and connect with community through various activities, such as a BIPOC LGBTQ+ filmmaker showcase, artmaking, and more. Individuals who identify as both BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) are invited to participate.. Led by Latricia Giles.
